We have an awesome and growing group of makers who have submitted applications for Maker Faire Milwaukee. Thanks to all who have applied to exhibit! We don’t want to miss out on anything, or anyone who might need a bit more time to get it together, so the Call for Makers will be extended through August 31st, 2015.

Tell us about yourself?
I’m an artist specializing in woodcut and ink drawings, a storyteller, and a wannabe minimalist.
I will be giving a live printing demonstration with a selection of my woodblocks. Maker Faire attendees will have a chance to try the process and the prints created will be available for purchase.

Call for Makers deadline extended to August 17
Maker Faire Milwaukee’s booth space has been extended, so we’re extending the application deadline! The Call for Makers is now open through August 17.
That’s an extra 15 days to apply, and to spread the word to all your Maker friends and forums! A big “thank you” goes out to the 100+ Makers who have already submitted applications – you guys are awesome. We’ll be reviewing them all in the next few weeks, and will be sending out acceptance confirmations shortly thereafter.

Intro to being a “skill collector”
New to making? Rest assured, everyone can be a maker. Check it: this flow chart breaks it down to a few simple steps, thanks to Brant Holeman, president of Milwaukee Makerspace in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee.
Makerspaces – also known as hackerspaces – are popping up all over the country. They’re community centers where people come together to share their skills, knowledge, tools and passion for learning and making in a social and collaborative setting. Makerspace members often describe themselves as “skill collectors” – people who to love to “collect” new techniques for making, hacking and fixing.

Maker Faire® Milwaukee – it’s official!
The first-ever White House Maker Faire will be held on Wednesday, June 18, and that day has been designated as a nationwide “Day of Making.” It seemed like a good time to make our plans for Milwaukee’s first Maker Faire official, too! Maker Faire Milwaukee will be held on September 27-28 at Wisconsin State Fair Park, on the same weekend as Harvest Fair. Admission is free. Maker Faire Milwaukee’s Call for Makers is now open.
