Arrakis 2.0 Sand Table

Art & Design
The fastest sand table in the known universe! A hidden robotic mechanism moves a magnet under the table, and the magnet moves a steel ball through a thin layer of sand on top of the table, producing beautiful and intricate patterns in the process.

What inspired you to make this project?
I had finished designing and building a corexy 3D printer and thought the corexy mechanism would be good for sand tables, so I decided to build one for the 2018 makerfaire. I then spent the next few years refining the design, making it go faster and quieter. The current table is the coffee table from my living room.
