Bay View High School Skate Shop

Education
Bay View High School's Skate Shop is an after school club that teaches students how to design and build their own longboards and skateboards, completely from scratch. Students have access to equipment and tools to design their decks, and to create unique graphics and logos for their work. We hope to expand to become a completely self-sustaining club.

For the last three years I have been teaching history and economics at Bay View High School, and for the same amount of time have been planning, organizing, and running many after school programs and functions, including the Bay View High Skate Shop. Like many makers here, I started by building longboard decks in my garage after developing a love for the activity during college. From there, I began to make them as graduation gifts for my students that I was a student teacher and coach to, and continued to grow and develop it as a formal club for students upon getting my first job.

Having been an avid skateboarder for many years, it was an easy decision to join in managing the Bay View Skateshop alongside my colleague and friend Nathan Conn. I also have a background in the fine arts, which lends itself well to the process-laden craft of fabricating custom skateboard decks. There is nothing more exciting to me than a rideable work of art.
