Tell us about yourself?
I am a small business owner since 1997, and I create my own aromatherapy products.
What are you showing at the Maker Faire?
I will be presenting my vegan handcrafted bath and body products. I use no artificial colors or fragrances. I avoid preservatives if possible, and have recently repackaged many of my products in a more sustainable way.
Why is making important to you?
I think it all started when I noticed sauerkraut, wine and root beer being made in the basement when I was very little. Sausage, yogurt, cheese, beer and candle making came a bit later. I learned that anything that is made in small batches is of a higher quality overall . Also it is very fulfilling. My favorite restaurants and bakeries are all small, family owned establishments. I tend to avoid mass-produced items if possible.
What was the first thing that you made?
Sausage, with my friend’s mother.
What have you made that you are most proud of?
My vegan soaps. It took a while for me to perfect them. It takes some experience.
Given an unlimited budget, what would you make?
I would make a beautiful factory, and hire a bunch of really cool maker-types. We would play ping-pong on our lunch break. Oh, and lunch would be on me, and it would be delivered from one of our excellent local restaurants.
