Why volunteer for Maker Faire Milwaukee?

To learn, have FUN and keep Maker Faire Milwaukee free and open to everyone! Great volunteers are what make a stellar Maker Faire! They ensure all makers–whether visiting or exhibiting–are informed and engaged while they learn and discover new things. Volunteers can do anything from helping out on a race course to staffing information booths. Our form now allows for groups and families to sign-up at one time. If you are a student or employee of a company that requires community service hours, volunteering at Maker Faire Milwaukee can count towards your service.

Individual volunteers must be 16 or older and sign a liability release form. Those under 18 require a parent signature. Children younger than 16 can volunteer with a guardian or the entire family.

We reserve the right to conduct background checks for volunteers when we deem it appropriate, due to the extent of interaction with children at the event.

  • Please provide the preferred email address that we should use to reach you.
  • Please provide your birth date.
  • Please select the days and times you would like to volunteer. Volunteers who work two shifts or a full day will be provided with a Maker Faire T-shirt!
  • The Faire welcomes volunteers to help with set up, our special Field Trip Friday program and other needs before and after the event days. Let us know if you can help.
  • For volunteering two shifts or a full day you'll get a t-shirt! Please select the size below.
  • If you or anyone in your group has physical limitations (no lifting, etc.) or skills that you might be able to share (sewing, greeting visitors, working with kids, stage management, power & hand tools, etc.), please let us know in the space below.
  • All volunteers must agree to the terms of the Maker Faire participation agreement at the end of this form. Volunteers under age 18 must furnish a completed agreement signed by a parent or guardian. Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

    In consideration of being allowed to participate in any activity or program at Maker Faire Milwaukee, I, the undersigned adult, acknowledge, appreciate and agree to the following conditions on my own behalf and/or on the behalf of the participant(s) identified below:

    I represent that I am (indicate all that apply): An adult age 18 or older;
    OR the parent or legal guardian of the participant(s) named;
    OR that I have obtained permission from the parent/legal guardian of the participant(s) named to execute this agreement on their behalf.

    I agree that the participant(s) named and/or I shall comply with all stated and customary terms, posted safety signs, rules, and verbal instructions as conditions for participation in any activity or program at Maker Faire Milwaukee.

    I, for myself and/or the participant(s) named and any representative thereof, hereby release and hold harmless Maker Faire Milwaukee, Gearbox Labs, Inc., Maker Media, Inc., Discovery World, their affiliates, officers, members, agents, employees and other participants, and sponsoring agencies from and against any and all claims, injuries, liabilities or damages arising out of or related in any way to our participation in any and all Maker Faire programs and activities.

    I also grant permission to Maker Faire Milwaukee to photograph/videotape me and/or the participant(s) identified below while participating in activities for the following purposes:

    - Maker Faire-related activities (website, videotaped presentations, newspaper, etc.)
    - Gearbox Labs, Inc.;
    - Possible appearance in future promotional materials; and
    - Possible appearance in outside media (website, newspaper, television).

    I also release Maker Faire Milwaukee, Gearbox Labs, Inc., Maker Media, Inc., Discovery World, their affiliates, officers, members, agents, employees and other participants, and sponsoring agencies from and against any and all claims, liability, demands, actions, and causes of action arising from, or connected in any way with the use of the photographs/videotape. I understand that I and/or the participant(s) listed will receive no compensation for participation.

    By submitting this form I state that I am an adult and I consent to all of the aforementioned for myself and/or the participant(s) listed.
