Our Call for Makers is now closed! We’ve got a few more applications to go through, but we’ve got over 200 Makers ready to go for Maker Faire Milwaukee 2017! You may want to browse through our Makers and Exhibits so you know what you’ll see, and you’ll probably want to check out the Schedule so you know what to do. (And yes, we’re still looking for people to volunteer at the event.)
After you’ve done all those things, there’s one thing left to do… Get Your Tickets! If you are not a Maker or a Volunteer, you’ll need to get tickets to the event. We want you to pre-register for tickets because it makes things easier for you, and for us! Tickets are FREE, but we do ask you to register. (And if you love the Faire, you can opt to be a supporter by purchasing a ticket or making a donation. Everything goes towards help us make sure we can return next year for another Faire.)
When you get your ticket, you can consider it a special “MakerPass” that will allow you to skip the long lines and get into the Faire fast! Why waste time standing in line when you can get into the Faire and start making things, seeing things, being amazed, and learning new things. GET YOUR TICKETS NOW and we’ll see you at Maker Faire Milwaukee on September 23rd & 24th, 2017!

We’re still working through submissions, and have another dozen in the queue, but once again, if you plan to apply and haven’t yet, do it now! Did you know that you can start the application process and save it part way through to continue later? Yes, that’s a thing. Save and continue later! If you get stuck and need to ask questions, you can take a break and finish up at a later date. (We’ll send you a link so you can pick up where you left off.)
Curious about the Makers joining us this year? Check out the Maker Exhibits page. You can view the Makers as a visual gallery or a textual list, and each Maker has a page with more info about what you’ll see at the Faire.
WITNESS A GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT AT THE FAIRE! EVEN BETTER, BE PART OF THE TEAM.
Dalek Asylum Milwaukee will attempt the world’s largest gathering of Daleks at Maker Faire Milwaukee, and is drafting a Dalek Dream Team to make it happen. Classic construction, cardboard, Dalek costumes….anything goes, as long as costumes and other entries are “complete and clearly recognizable as the character or costume designated for the record set out in the specific guidelines, at the discretion of independent witnesses and the Guinness World Records organization. Any entry deemed unsuitable will be disqualified from the final total.”
Let’s do the math: Dalek Asylum Milwaukee currently has 22 entries lined up, and needs another 78 to break the record. There is a rather harsh rule about disqualifying the entire attempt(!) if 10% of the total number of entries are disqualified as incorrect or incomplete, or if costumes are removed during the attempt. So, let’s beef up the entries for good measure and the inevitable disqualifications.
For some background on the idea and Dalek Asylum Milwaukee, check out this article from Milwaukee Record: Dalek Asylum Milwaukee assembles record-exterminating army of ‘Doctor Who’ villains.
If you’re in, let us know at daleks@makerfairemilwaukee.com We’ll share the complete Guinness World Records rules and keep you posted on the Dalek Dream Team and plans for scheduling the attempt during the Faire on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Expo Hall A.
Hello Makers! The time is now! The Call for Makers is open and we are accepting applications!
We want YOU to share what you make at Maker Faire Milwaukee. Show off your skills, share your knowledge, inspire others. You already know that Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth, but the only thing that could make it better is having you join us. The Call for Makers will be closing on August 1st, 2017 so don’t wait… apply now!
The Call for Makers has been extended, and we’re still adding plenty of Makers to the web site. Check out the list of Makers for 2016 so far. (More are being added daily!)
We’re excited to see the return of some awesome Makers from last year (many with new projects) and we’ve been welcoming a lot of first-time Makers to the event. Keep an eye on the blog for some “Meet the Makers” posts soon.
If you haven’t submitted an application yet, there’s still time and space! We’ll have the Call for Makers open until September 1, 2016. We’re also still looking for Speakers, Workshops, and teams to compete in the Power Racing Series. (We’re holding off on accepting Commercial Makers right now, but may open the application process again depending on space allocation.)
We’ve been seeing some great submissions come through the Call for Makers and we’re closing the call for Commercial Makers today, but we’ve decided to extend the call for Makers (those just showing and sharing, but not selling.) If you’re a Maker, either an individual, or part of a group, and you want to show off your project(s) at Maker Faire Milwaukee, you can still apply!
We’ll keep the Call for Makers open until September 1, 2016, though if we fill up every space we have it may close sooner, so if you know an awesome maker, speaker, or workshop leader, tell them to submit an application as soon as they can (even if their project isn’t done.)
The 2016 National Week of Making kicks off this Friday, June 17th and runs through Thursday, June 23rd. Join us in celebrating makers of all kinds and making of all kinds.
At Betty Brinn Children’s Museum our Be A Maker space will be featuring their Urban Gardening and Animation Experiments during the Week of Making.
Our friends (and co-hosts of Maker Faire Milwaukee) at Milwaukee Makerspace will be opening their doors for their weekly meeting on Tuesday, June 21st at 7pm. Drop in and find out more about the space and the makers who use it.
And finally, our own Carrie Wettstein and Pete Prodoehl will be headed to the National Maker Faire happening in Washington D.C. this coming weekend. Carrie will attend the President’s National Week of Making kick-off event at the White House on Friday and Pete will be speaking on a panel at the National Maker Faire. The gathering will unite select individuals from around the country who are leading efforts to empower, support and inspire makers.
What will you be doing for the National Week of Making?
